All you spoiled brats, this behavior with green aggro and mobs running was how it was.
Although, mob running speed is a little off. Everything else is fine.

Mob run speed or HP % are certainly a big part of the issue. Mob flight behavior is also a problem. In classic EQ, mobs quit running the instant their hate list cleared (i.e. FD), and fairly quickly after every PC on their hate list was sitting down. In Sebilis, a mob fleeing from the zone would not make it to aggro range of the mobs at the second door if a soloing PC sat down.
These mobs would instead stop running if the PC was standing at zone in (not following the running mob), or would come charging back at full speed if the PC sat down.
With the current mob flight behavior (mobs run toward random points and keep on running), classes already disadvantaged on red99 are pretty much gutted.
I'd invite the developers to try playing a pure melee class on red99 now. Classic EQ actually had soloing capabilities for melee classes -- there were even soloing guides. This capability has been removed from red99, and with it, a large part of the viability of these classes.
With the inability to XP without having friends online, and the XP loss for PvP (something I'm honestly okay with if I can get that XP back somehow), it just hasn't been worthwhile for me to log in since the patch.
