pfft. You got lucky with staff. But yeah the people complaining about staff have never even started the SS grind yet =) At least the staff I have clicked thousands of times on my quest for the shawl, and the shawl isn't nearly as useful as the staff anyways which is part of the necro trifecta. I am 2/3rds complete in my goal, VP staff will prove to be the hardest part by far, took me a year to get the VP key and probably be another 5 years before I can complete the trifecta =D

I have an aversion to EC and I play on dual monitor rig. I "waste" lots of time in EQ. It's how the game was meant to be won.

Another contender is Staff of the Dreaded Gaze which I spent way too much time camping for when I could have got the plat from seafuries in under 1/10th the time. But the Wurm Lord Shawl I spent probably 10x as much time and still haven't seen it. I have got all of the ultra-rare drops many times and capped out 60 and sacc'd myself I think 10 times. Keep in mind the exp is horrible because I FD every kill and pet takes most the exp. It's by far the rarest item I've ever encountered (not encountered) in any game.

Alezor+Phiren both got 1 in the same day. But this is after i leveled a toon from half way in to 58 to 60 in that camp.

lord grimrot is kinda like the hadden camp OP had mentioned, a long respawn timer for potentially nothing, and even then the final reward nowadays is basically a collectors item

wow how did I miss this thread. There are so, so many items on this list.
But to summarize...

If the item you're camping to sell is worth 1000 plat and it takes you longer then 1 hour to obtain. It's not worth it. So if an item worth say 6k takes you longer than 6 hours,.. It's not worth it.
A popular example.. Jboots MQ ~6k,. if it takes you longer than 6 hours. You're wasting your time.

You can farm 1k+ plat per hour, outside of raids at several locations. And that's where I set the bar. The number of places you can farm between 300-600 plat per hour is common.

I spent a bunch of levels in the patriarch and frenzy room, and never saw that thing drop. Saw ferocious spawn about 10 times, never had the damn chest

I wasn't specifically camping it, but it's very rare. I did see one drop on live, though!

That's a good point Baler. That is why I wondered why I always wondered why so many people camped for Staff of the Dreaded Gaze. That was another crappy part about it is often you would show up and it would be camped by someone looking for the staff, I always wondered why. It is about 1/100 chance of dropping as an ultra-rare drop, Xalgoz is 50/50 spawn on a 30 minute timer.

Average time to get the staff Is 100 hours (I think it took me 150-200 hours) and it sells for 20k, so an average of 200 plat an hour. This is why I was so sick as I camped this on my 60 necro who was previously making 1.5k an hour at seafuries average. A wise necro named Nekroman told me it wasn't worth it and I just didn't have the wisdom at that point to listen to him. Since then I have warned others camping staff it's not worth it and many of them are naïve as I once was and camp it anyways, most give up eventually. Always possible to get lucky, when I finally got it I logged in one morning and he was up and had it and I'm sure that has happened where people have got there first kill, RNGquest and all. But I'd say there are far more people who camped it 100+ hours and gave up.
