You split people into groups, the groups come in to conflict even if these groups pursue similar outcomes (basically fair taxes paying for functioning infrastructure not bloated corrupt government). By outgrouping half the population with the fake 2 party system the followers of the opposite party are deindividualised and so dehumanised.
It’s an effective way using basic group psychology for division and control by the big money class that really control both parties. It’s sad to see in action.
Not much different in the UK either now unions and other working class social structures don’t get much influence on Labour.
