So I was just wondering about this, reading through this terrifying thread.

If H1N1 had the same death rate as Covid, with that many infected, it would have killed 1,216,000 people

If H1N1 had the same rate of people who contract it that need to be put onto a ventilator to breathe, we would require 9 million ventilators.

We currently have 100 thousand inside the united states.

I think there is reason to be concerned!

Unless westerners some how have more stronger immune systems than all the other countries that currently have it. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Edit: I just want to say if we lose 1.2 million of our grandparents and parents and friends with immunodeficiencies, with nobody to blame but ourselves?

...We'll end up in a depression, caused by depression!

But all that said, I cant believe that that would happen, and dont think it will. But this whole thing is 2 spooky 4 me!

I expect 3 months of really bad, and 3 months of still bad, but reconstruction... but I hope all you skeptics are right!

I'm not sure the numbers being reported are accurate to the point where patients have been checked for the actual virus.

"I think I've got the corona virus doc"
"Okay pal better self isolate for two weeks, I'll chalk this one up for a +1"

... isn't convincing to me on accuracy.

But yeah also I don't know anyone who has had it.

It's somewhat disingenuous comparison to compare the impact of C19 after it has been in the states for only a couple of weeks to H1N1, which obviously was around for much longer.

I also wonder about the comparative difficulty between successfully diagnosing cases of C19 compared to C19.

Anecdotaly I remember panic surrounding SARS, swine flu and bird flu. It has always confused me, deadly respiratory diseases doing the rounds occasionally just seems like a fact of life. Gotta practice good hygiene, minimise excessive physical contact and keep the larder stocked routinely.

The lack of a proper message has been the real problem. When this is over/controlled, its easily going to be more deadly than anything since Yellow fever, as diseases go.

Italy is a ~in real time~ example of what the scientists are freaking out about. Its 20% +/- healthy patients needing ventilation to beat this. We do not have the physical space for that many people if everyone gets this in the same time period. People are going to die just from the lack of care who would have survived if a bed had been available.

Any legit sight with actual numbers is showing: 80% minor symptoms and self resolve, 20% end up needing some type of hospitalization.

That's why there is the big push, not to stop people from getting it, but stop them from getting it all at once.

"Medcram" youtube channel lectures been doing a fantastic, fact based, short and sweet break down since it started in china back in Jan.

^^^^^^ seems like a legit well informed poster who is use to the shit hitting the fan like a cool and normal person.

Also, had it, what is the chance that I will be one of those 20% upon - reinfection? I am guess the hospitalization occurs in victims who have an extreme inflammatory response in their lungs and since I am keeping this symptomatically cool, I will be good to go.

The big difference here is that young, healthy people are show very minor symptoms - some none at all - while being highly contagious for upwards of 3+ WEEKS.

The outbreak here in the US has just started. It's interesting to look back and see all the backlash China faced for misrepresenting the true scope of the COVID outbreak in Wuhan meanwhile this is PRECISELY what the Trump Administration and the CDC are now doing in the US.
