Honestly my number 1 vote would be for just a plain ol' mutt. Can't beat em. Never owned a mutt that didn't have a good disposition. That and you don't get the health problems that comes with purebred dogs. Heinz 57=Greatest dog breed ever.

This^ other than a German Shepherd or a really good boxer, mutts are the best. Great immunities, quick to adapt, easy to take care of and just overall damn good dogs. I have two black lab/boxer mixes, brother and sister and they are great dogs, also great with my kids.

Yeah. We had a Doberman that we adopted when I was a kid. He had been abused at his previous home. That was probably one of the most gentle and emotional dogs I've ever had. Died early due to congenital heart failure though. Lots of health problems with that breed. Think he was only about 6 when he died. Loved that dog. Never gotten another Doberman because of the health issues.

Completely agree, doberman's are some amazing dogs. In my lifetime I have owned one black and 2 red doberman's. One of them we got from a cop, he was abused and they mutilated his ears while trying to cut them. You could rub his ears and he would literally fall asleep standing with his head on your lap. Def the most emotional breed I ever owned. Miss that guy, R.I.P Kramer.

German shepherds are amazing. Had several growing up. Can't force myself to get another one though, ours had a lot of hip dysplasia problems. Awesome dogs with children though. Very affectionate and very protective.
