Game moved on, I didn't. Played on and off until GoD, occasionally starting over on a new server. I was very casual on live, never raided at all, and starting with Velious EQ focused more and more away from the casual player (most of my friends quit within a couple months of Velious launch.) They tried with LDoN, but it was such a cheap and cheesy implementation that the shiny wore off after a month or so.

I remember people talking about some promotional deal where you could start out at L62 with 50 AAs several years (?5) back, so I logged in to the SoE website for the first time in years and checked my highest level character and sure enough he was L62 with 50 AAs. I didn't bother logging into the game itself.

I'm surprised that many people here played past PoP and even up to the latest expansion, considering we are a classic server here only going up to SoV. I would fully support a locked server at PoP.

People may not believe it, but Vanilla WoW was some of the most fun I have had playing an mmo. It was an easy choice to quit EQ and move over. You wouldn't be able to tell by looking at the game now.

Vanilla WoW was amazing. Granted, it ruined all MMORPG's today, but for its time, it was pretty damn innovative. Not near as "hand holding" as the game has become. I really loved that game. I quit when TBC came out. When my guild cleared Blackwing Lair, I was done.

For me it was the Bazaar that was beginning of the end of the game.

Taking away the haggling involved in the EC tunnel was the first step towards dumbing the game down by removing mandatory social interaction.

Planes of Power was another step in that direction. Why get a port from a player when everyone can just click on a book?

The EZ mode mentally only progressed from there. Give me pain, and heartache, and tears... anything over EZ mode.

I hate interacting with half of this server. Luclin/Bazaar was a godsend to not have to deal with resellers, and people who laugh at your prices in an attempt to get you to lower them. PoP was a godsend for noobs traveling so that a druid doesn't not port them because they can't pay 50 plat for a port.

Forced interaction isn't a good thing. Nor is complete solo play.

Allow players to interact as they wish, and choose with whom they interact. Sending a tell to a random druid/wizard for a port isn't any interaction at all. If that druid were a bot you really couldn't tell much of a difference at all. "Port to WC please", druid arrives, invites to group, ports, SoWs, you input coin. Its no different from a robot.

Tbf, this server and (old) live were/are totally different. The scum and filth you find here is nothing like what you saw back in the day. It's a bit unfair to compare this stagnation to the glory days.

Fair point on the port. Except that I've made long-term friends in EQ just by doing something like asking for a port, or haggling, or grouping.

That isn't possible with a robot.

Grouping, raiding and assisting with quest/corpse recoveries, etc. I definitely agree. Friends are made.

But never did I make a friend or be compelled to have further interaction with someone who sold me an item or ported me somewhere. Those two things were 1 minute interactions with 1-2 sentences exchanged and a thanks at the end. Just like I have no interest in interacting any further with the person checking me out at the grocery store and if at all possible all opt to do the self checkout. Cause that's way more convenient.

Hard to pinpoint which expansion I left Live from since I was still buying each expansion for a while without a prayer in the world of ever seeing any of the content.

When Freeport, Oasis, and Ro were revamped with new graphics was my ending. Add how researching spells were for naught since vendors sold all the spells save for the newest ones were readily available was a negative too. And how Mayong Mistmoore somehow was much more powerful than all the gods in the game *baffled*.

Of course, the lure of Eve Online was there with its ability to become powerful over time without the constant need to grind, grind, and grind some more. Diving headfirst into that game without a care in the world that I just spent for two year subscriptions to my Live accounts did not bother me - that's how disenchanted I became.

Quit when I saw LoY coming out and I hadn't even began to look at the previous expansions I had bought (PoP before Ykesha I think?). It just put me off that they were throwing even more crap at me to spend money on and it was incredibly hard to keep up with. Also: had just discovered girls. 10/10 would quit again.
