Hi all, wilson here. I recently moved to a rural area with very limited internet in
terms of both speed and data cap. I've searched for old MMOs to play on my laptop while here, and while I do have an OSRS account, the game just doesn't do it for me. I'm hoping Everquest can satisfy my desire for a solid old-school MMO. Any tips for brand new beginners out there? I would love to know which type of character I could pick in terms of race and class. What are some of the simpler characters to play? Looking forward to being involved in, and contributing to this community. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

To start you can’t go much wrong with a halfling or wood elf druid. Relatively easy wisdom caster to play and doesn't need expensive gear.
If a melee character is wanted, maybe a human monk starting in Freeport. Check out the wiki, there are lots of good guides there. Good hunting!

Imo rogues are the best newbie melee... High demand little need to know...just stab things... Monks can get complex late game

Rogues are also nice with sneak/hide and being able to walk around all the dungeons you don't know yet. Without near as much risk of dieting because you took a wrong turn.

Start as a druid...will introduce you to a lot of game mechanics.
You'll never be the best at any one thing as a druid, but can get 'em up to mid 40s or so and use that char to make money porting people to fund your 2nd char (main).

If you're into casters, I would choose a Druid or Mage.
Druids get a little bit of everything, so you can learn many aspects of the game. You can also teleport people for money, which will help you twink other characters you may be interested in. Mages solo quite well and their role in groups is fairly simple and straightforward. If you want to play a melee, then Rogue is a good starting class. They're the worst soloers, but they're sorely needed in groups for their DPS, so it's not difficult to get a group usually. They're simple to play like Mages as well. Their epic is probably the easiest to get and their sneaking/hiding is a great way to learn the layouts of dungeons, etc. Pretty much every class is easy to play, the difficulty comes in the responsibility. Some classes are expected to pull mobs to the group, or crowd control, or keep them alive in some form or fashion. The classes I listed are typically low responsibility classes.

Very Fine, and Welcome. This is the perfect game for that lol (played every day for whole month and only used 1.3 gb of bandwidth vs 60 gb for youtube in the same period.) Id vote for rogue for the reasons said above by Dreenk317. Druid could be nice as well for making port money / friends. Welcome to p99!
