So what stupid stuff did you believe...
For me, there were 2 I remember First, I was sure I read somewhere that rangers could not/should not kill animals or we would lose our rangers skills. I even had a guide tell me that I should not kill animals. Second, I believed that if you died in Lava you lost your corpse forever. Imagine how scary that made SolA for me pulling to the zone line, which I did for like 5 levels. Eventually, I DID die in lava and I was in a complete panic. I eventually petitioned and had my corpse warped to the zone line by a GM.

My step dad played EQ before me and played a druid. When I started playin I remember him yelling at me for killin animals cause I was a druid saying, if I killed any animals they would all come after me.

When I first started EQ, it was the Oct. after Kunark came out. As a low level halfling warrior. I felt adventurous one day and took the boats from Freeport to BB, then got on the skiffs to Kunark. A guy told me that if I fell off any of the boats, that a giant kraken would kill me and my corpse would be lost forever. I fell off in Timorous Deep and ended up on some desert island. There was a dwarf paladin in zone and it took him forever to find me on one of the many islands I was on. We swam and swam until I eventually found an old raft. It took me to the Oasis of Marr. I looked on my EQ map I got in the box and it looked SO FAR from Freeport. Little did I know it was just up the zone line. I followed the coast back to FP. That was a fun adventure, but how naive I was back then lol!

The rare Sea Monster that would spawn in Lake Rathetear was a good one...

Oh I just thought of another...
Anti-camp radius. That was a widely held belief at the time [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

I can recall two specific instances of this.. 1) Camping the Arch Ghoul Magi in Lower Guk. We waited down the hall and around the corner. We'd wait to see the casting message before going to attack. 2) Camping the Ghoul Assassin - We waited down the ladder until something popped. In both cases the group was sure that either the spawn would not show or that the rare spawn would only have the common item. Actually, I think I even remember there being some of this mindset while camping Drelzna for the Jboots. [You must be logged in to view images. That when SoE said they wanted to take a look at Plane of Mischief I thought they were going to finish some quests and add silliness... Not gut the zone and turn it into just another raid zone.
