So I started a rogue and thought about buying a quiver. I noticed it does not go in the ammo slot and was wondering what benefit it has over a normal backpack?

Eventually in Velious quivers will provide bow haste depending on the quiver's weight reduction. There's no benefit atm, just use backpacks.

doesn't quiver feed into your range attack without moving stacks between inv and ammo slot? not really a big benefit unless you're dumping tons of arrows into something.
