my opinion is that the police should be set up like the military. i mean that when people work as police officers, they are police officers 24/7. there should be police housing where only the police live, and they should work terms of 4 or 8 years at a time. everything should be paid for, and they should receive pay on top of that (just like the military).
this whole system we have now, where police have mortgages, cheating lovers, kids, and other civilian problems.. this just isnt cutting it. cops are in debt just as much as everyone else, and they are taking shortcuts because of their stresses.
the only difference is that when a cop takes shortcuts its called being a dirty cop, i.e. police corruption.

A lot of what you said is already true. Many police jobs are already incredibly cushy, with very generous pensions and pay that is not linked to performance. There's also a lot of abuse of their overtime hour system. All this, and in most places they don't even face half the risk that soldiers do. But no politician wants to take on any of these things because of the police and firefighter unions and public perception. Just look at Detroit, most public workers, except for cops, will be forced to take huge pension cuts because of the bankruptcy. I live in an area where crime is also non-existent, and do you know how much the cops are making?
Honestly the problems you describe affect soldiers themselves much more than they do police officers. Police officers rarely get PTSD or have limbs blown off.
