it's worth putting a fungi on a 60 monk. even in velious. it provides a very useful, potentially irreplaceable effect (depending which version of ventani robe we get, although that item will be in short supply anyhow)

Thanks for the suggestions!

I still need to buy him a PB, camp fbss and J boots, and pick up other things like dalnir gear but fungi is a good start.

Soloed 52-58 in the hole with a fungi. Bring a slow stone clicky and you can easily solo named elementals down there as well.

Where?
I solo'd my monk to 55 with fungi. I killed Bouncers Hurd & Flerb in Feerrott, Bards & Nobles in Highkeep, Glacier Yetis in DL and 54-55 I killed Cyndreela in front of the Fear portal during double xp weekend [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Now I am retiring his ass because soloing a melee highend sucks.

38 monk can solo gnomes in sol A for sick experience until about 40-42.

From there I'd suggest City of mist till 50ish, or SolB.
shhh, it's a lie. solA is horrible experience. No one should even go there. Best to not even think about it at all. sola just is a myth, a delusion, it doesn't even really exist.

The worst thing about SoldngA is the fact there is a zone entry fee! You lose so much plat going there! [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Soloing on my 38 Rogue has become a bit harder. I am moving from Flame > Fire > Inferno Goblins > to the Soluseks, which are a lot harder. Especially the mage and priests.

I tried fighting the gnomes but they hit much harder than the goblins, and the mages seem to be a problem with their damage shields and pets. The healers seem to be a problem as well. Any tips for fighting the damned gnomes?

It will slow down into the 50s, but you will still be able to solo a blue mob for exp while you lfg and regen back relatively fast.

Unless you have higher end raid items to pick from, fungi is probably the best thing you can put in your monk's chest slot. And even then, you would still want to carry one in your bags.
