Yep make your own grpf if ou dont want to be LFG for hours, its what i always did and i had no problem level my chars that way.

Moved to mammoths at 23. Mommas are awesome plat and great exp til like 30ish

+1 to that regarding soloing. Mammoths in Permafrost are an extremely good pp source as I have figured out yet (im still a big n00b).
They drop Mammoth Tusk about 95% of the time, and it sells for 10pp each at merchant.
When you hit 19 and get Terrorize Animal spell, they are even more relaxing to kill.
Bull Elephants in SK also drop these but at only about 50% rate.
