Anywhere I can find a breakdown of population by class?
Hello, P99. Just started here after having played live for years. Before I start committing a ton of time to a new character, I was wondering which classes are the most needed/ least common? I know it really just comes down to "play whatever class you enjoy", and with a 1k+ population there's bound to be a lot of everything, but I'm curious nonetheless.
Also, is the hybrid xp penalty still in effect here? I seem to remember there being a period after Velious was released where the penalty was still in effect.

I did not find a statistic with a quick look, but you can easily make your own. Use
/who all cleric count in order to see how many clerics are there at this time. I think it does not count /anon players (not sure about that), so certain classes, especially clerics druids and wizards might be underrepresented. Hyprid XP penalty is still in effect, but should be dropped in a few months time. If you want to group a lot, i would recommend a cleric or a tank. Enchanter is nice as well, but i think there are a lot around, same for shamans. That said, grouping is not so hard at low levels. Even my necromancer is grouping pretty frequently. At high levels people get a lot more picky though.

Melee DPS is always in demand - There are more spots in a group for DPS than anything else as well. With that said, there are a lot of melee DPS on the server for that reason. If you are talking about 50+ grouping, the utility classes take it in the shorts because they are not "essential" - that would be wiz, dru, brd, nec, rng - these 5 classes have a tougher time grouping than the other classes - mainly because the roles they fill are better fill by other classes and the XP penalty is real at these levels. This is why getting a guild and making friends is so important. I group with a necro all the time because I like him, not because his class is uber.

This is sound advice for anyone playing on p99.
Make your own groups

Thank you all for the replies. I'm actually considering maybe a druid to begin with. Something that isn't terribly gear dependent and has some measure of solo ability.

I guess that gives me time to accumulate some wealth before making a paladin :O

In my observations, if it's Blue the break down is like:
10% Druid 10% Bard 10% Mage 10% Necromancer 10% Monk 10% Rogue 10% Cleric 10% Enchanter 05% Warrior 05% Shaman 03% Shadow Knight 02% Wizard 03% Paladin 02% Ranger *Note Blue has about 800 during off peak hours and up to 2000 during prime time (EST). On Red: 20% Druid 20% Shaman 20 %Monk 10% Rogue 10% Wizard 05% Mage 05% Shadow Knight 02% Cleric 02% Necromancer 02% Warrior 02% Paladin 02% Ranger *Note there are only like 100 - 250 players on Red on off peak hours with spikes to about 300 or so during prime time (EST).

Why would you say wizard is so under represented? On blue at least.

Like I said, this is my opinion on the break down, other player's mileage may vary. I mainly play M-F between 7PM-11PM EST.
