That's bullshit you guys are so full of shit. Griefers can still get all kinds of satisfaction without exp loss.

If you had consequences in the game for death then people would defend people more often and the game has more meaning. On RZ live PvPers were basically villains because the consequences were so steep. Exp loss is minor and it's sad this server can't handle some sort of consequence when it is free and an emulator full of players that know how the game works.

There needs to be risk AND reward, not just one. And they need to be relatively balanced because "griefing satisfaction" isn't rewarding enough to be worth the risk of losing exp, and thus encourages people to avoid PVP. But if you could loot coins + an item then it would be worth it.
And changing the mechanics won't save the server, assuming that means increasing the population. Since a server is dead if nobody plays. Improving the mechanics may help, but the only thing that will bring more people is advertising. The people who aren't playing on the server either don't know about it, or they have assumptions about PVP and Everquest or simply don't like it. You can't force people who don't like it to play, but you can definitely bring new people in. I simply don't care enough to advertise for this server though. But you could do it anywhere like on twitch, forums, a bumper sticker, whatever.

How often do people create EQ emu servers? Do we think someone will make an item loot PVP server sometime soon? It would be cool to see how it goes. Honestly, I would bet the interested audience would be a smaller pool than that of Red99, but I could be wrong. Maybe if the PvP scene on such a server was hot enough, it would exceed Red's population.

Rallos worked because of the multifaceted community, with pks, neuts, and anti pkers offering a little something for every play style. There just aren't enough players left to recreate that same social dynamic. The only way I think an item loot server would work would be either a Discord ruleset server with perma death, quick xp, full item loot and a consistent wipe cycle in place, or a regular PoP-era PvP server with item loot enabled. I think the abundance of PvE content coupled with the AA system in place to keep players of all walks interested in bettering their character past max level would draw a fair crowd.
