Custom server idea to prevent end-game crowding.
I just had an idea for a server that might prevent the end-game congestion and max-level glut. The game plays to level 50 like normal, but then when you ding 51 you have only 2 months to ding 52 after which you return to the start of 50. If you make it into 52, the 2 month timer resets and you have 2 months to make 53 after which you return to 50 if you haven't dinged 53 in that time. This carries on all the way to level 60, where you only get 2 months to be 60 and then you automatically return to level 50 to start the progression again. If you lose a level during your 2 months, for instance going from 57 to 56, you still have to complete the original level target in that time, in that case 58, or you will return to 50 again. All gear and spells and skill ups are kept when you return to 50, though the regular level caps still apply.
I think that this would make it so that nobody can have a ton of level 60's at once and they wouldn't be able to get BiS gear on multiple toons. It'd keep the players in the end game rotating through and it might make encounters more difficult since it would be hard to amass 100 level 60's under one guild tag for very long. Now the argument will come in that getting to 60 and raiding is the fun part of EverQuest; this wouldn't be the server for you. Not classic, but that's why it's titled custom server idea. Flame away.

So the big guilds power lvl their members and normal players get screwed? Don't think it'll work mate.

Also, what if I want to take a break for a month or 2? I have to re-level? I'd probably quit.

it would work but not in the way you intended. ie: congestion gone but no-one is there at all now.
idea could be cool if consistency and error free gaming gave an arbitrary power boost or buff that degraded over time or with massive error, i dont think that would produce less congestion though.
