![]() When I was new to EQ and playing a Wood Elf Druid, I was exploring WC, enjoying my new SoW spell. I accidentally wandered too close to the shadowed men camp and they almost killed me as I trained them to the WC/Kith zoneline. It was night time.
As I'm about to zone into kith, a group of low health players zoned over and into my train. I zone into Kith and see the departing (and thankfully not aggroing) bunch of dark elves walking back into the forest. Then came the /tells from the people that zoned into WC, saying I killed them with my shadowed men train. Alas, all I could really do was offer SoWs and teen-level druid buffs for their CRs.

![]() not really a regret but i got away with countless bannable offenses on red99 by befriending the GMs/guides which ultimately probably led to dozens if not hundreds of people quitting the game forever
actually kind of proud of that

![]() I like in EQ how you are not the protagonist, but they do provide some ideas of what to do to get started.
You spawn with your newbie tunic quest. That quest takes you to an area with a bunch of NPCs, where some will give you quests to get out in the field and get killing. That gets you a bunch of drops like skins and stuff which you realise you can turn into armor, etc. I know people don't like hand-holdy games, but I tried Uthgard the other day and you just spawn there with no 'hey head to this area to get started' note. I walked around trying to talk to NPC but there were no obvious tasks (turns out one npc you could whisper 'task' to even though he had no text to prompt doing so). I found it hard to get into a game where there was no immediate motivation provided to me to get stuck in; I was quite happy /dancing at the city centre with nothing to do! I'm a big Warhammer (tabletop) fan. I never got into Warhammer online because I knew there was server problems, etc at launch and by the time I was interested it had shut down. I'd give that mmo a go if an emu came out, I watched friends play and it seemed pretty darn fun! I don't tend to enjoy the games where you are lvl 1 newb in an MMO and the first NPC says to you (like every other new starter) OMG it's Anakin Skywalker, here to return balance to the force! You the awesomes! Go kill this wolf!

![]() Exactly! I'm already the chosen one in real life. I want to pretend to be a warlike Halfling desperate to earn the affections of the giants to escape that reality!

![]() Back when Sullon Zek was newish, my friend had a lvl 58 mage that was playing on one of my old accounts. He ended up selling that account to a guildie for like, a hundo or something. Well I eventually had an inkling to play a toon on that account so I called SOE and got the account back, felt terrible cuz the guy I stole it back from was a good dude. I never played that mage though. Still feel bad about it.
