Default What do 55+ mages do in groups?

Ive seen mages coth, and dump mod rods, but other than that what does a good mage do in groups/for their group at 55+?

edit: this isnt a jab at mages, I sincerely want to know what a good mage looks like.

Don't nuke at 100% and send pet in at 60%, instead be the 1%er that sends pet in at 100 and nukes at 60.

I pulled in KC's LCY the other day on my mage with pretty decent success. Just run around pulling mobs with a level 1 nuke or throwing daggers while pet is killing stuff in camp.

It was mostly a pet group tho, i suppose u don't want to do that in the classic boring puller/CC/tank/healer group? But then again as long as pet's doing its job, it's probly better to have the usual puller class (hi monks) dps than the mage.

I also main healed many different times with summon bandages as i leveled up, but i wouldn't consider this a strat! Still semi-useful with a shammy main healer to help with canni when the rest of group feels like helping at 50+~

Proof that anyone can pull really, especially if there's C2 on the group.

A good 55+ mage does 80-120 sustained dps (pet + nukes) in groups on top of DS.

And ... as needed makes rods to keep the group rolling, summons useful clickies/items as needed, coths when needed, offtanks adds with pet when/if needed.

My mage is the toon on p99 that surprised me the most while running a parser. Anyone can parse pets but only the caster can parse nukes. Mages put down a lot of hurt in groups.

Send in your pet immediately and then blow stuff up. I like to keep 50% mana in reserve for strategic burns. While medding the pet still puts out 50-70 (or more with higher level pets) sustained dps.

put in a /pet back off and another pause before the /pet attack - this is how you keep it focused on the correct target. Use the macro several times during the fight too.

Mages are great soloers, but add a lot to a group as well. I too have been using a parser and am quite surprised by our output. The damage is always great, and when stuff hits the fan, dump your mana bar to clear targets. You can probably solo a target or two in the time it takes the group to manage the rest.

But compared to a necro - if the pet bites it and you don't have 10 seconds for a new pet, you kind of feel useless. No roots, no mez, no CC at all. If you can't use pet and can't nuke, those crucial moments can seem like a nightmare. Learning to chain pets even in a group is useful.
