If all that came to a head because his dumbass drug a single pull train to a RAID FORCE of AFK Seal Teams in Fear (you should not be afk in Fear and have the expectation that you'll live, but I digress)... and you call that us "throwing him under the bus" and on top of it you want to RECRUIT HIM, GO FOR IT. That's the point, you have no standards, do no research, cold-call people you're recruiting and have never grouped with. YOU'RE ZERGLING

Part of managing people is understanding their weaknesses and strengths and doing your best to maximize their potential while minimizing their shortcomings.
Despite this player's shortcomings you continued to employ them in a role that was obviously not working out. As the more experienced and knowledgeable player, the responsibility fell to you and the officers to move this person to a role more suited to their skillset and abilities. If you didn't do so, that sounds more like an upper management problem in it's inability to correctly assign the work to more suitable players while mitigating risk to the rest of the guild.
