FYI for anyone researching while at work: Googling "Mistress Latazura" is entirely safe, but "Mistress Ltazura" and other variations will result in NSFW images.

Some named info...

Helena Mistweaver. Spawns in the tower, yellow at L60. Casts cleric spells, including CH. Has a lot of HP, not sure of max hit, but its below 300. Not really that difficult, if you can get slow in. Drops the Siren Hair Earring, Bowl of Watery Protection, and something else I don't know of.

Shimmering Servant (or similar). Spawns in any Icy servant spot inzone (so I've heard). Not that hard from what I remember, similar to a regular Icy. Drops Wavecrasher, Drums of the Beast, and Shield of the Tsunami.

Mistress Latazura. She is a badass, maxes for 360 or so, and casts cleric spells. She is red at L60. Need to stick slow, or you will have big problems. Drops Lyendlln's Lute (only killed her once).

All the above mobs were killed with 1 group (including Latazura), which included, Warrior, Enchanter, Rogue, Monk, Cleric, Druid. Everyone was 60 except the monk, druid and rogue. Once we stuck slow on Latazura she was pretty easy. You DO need the chanter to mana suck the two named sirens, as they can gate at times. Second time we pulled Latazura, slow wore off mid-battle, and we then got promptly owned.

(edit) - The two named sirens spawn in the tower to the right of the CS zone, the named servant also happened to spawn (for us) in that tower as well.

Some general changes were noted following the zonewide nerf...

I didn't have time to check out the whole zone, but from what I saw:

- The zone in now has one mob instead of three

- HP, AC, and resistances of mobs have been dropped across the board. HPs are still fairly high though. Seahorses were the only mobs we found that had high magic resist but they were still mezzable. Everything was slowable.

- I've been told that the zone XP modifier has been raised significantly to account for the fact it is a largely underwater zone. The people I was with, ranging from level 56 to 58, seemed satisfied with the xp that was gained there.

Don't be fooled into taking this zone lightly though, it is still an area for 55+, though now you can do it with one group instead of needing two. There's also a boss mob around, red to our level 58 tracker, in the castle area to the right of zone.
Still no info on which NPC(s) dropped the lute before the introduction of Latazura.

Caster's Realm Forums post dated December 10 2000 on his initial impressions of Siren's Grotto. He gives a detailed accounting which includes..

This would have been release velious only 5 days in with Mistress being in the zone. What was dropping the items that we couldnt find a source for is in fact the Mistress.

As much as I would love to see this mob in game, I believe she was added later sadly. The "mistress" Caud is referring to in era is actually Helsia Mindreaver, as is clear by his description of Castle, which is directly right from the entrance and whom is very hard to get solo. Latazura is much further in SG in the tunnels below temple and it seems likely he would have desribed temple, and the long path to L if that's what he was actually referring to.

I dont buy that the term Mistress was used to describe Helsa Mindreaver. Mistress was in her location of course on launch Velious based on his statements. The rework likely moved her later on to the spawn point below the temple.

Apologies, actually I think you are correct on this, after more thoroughly reviewing the details in this thread and others. The additional combat description here: https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/...8&p=2#comments is clearly talking about castle, which is consistent with Caud's comment. I can show some screenshots that make this clear if it's useful to GM's.

So vague timeline is:

dec 5 - velious launch
dec 11 2000 - caud describing named mistress - https://i.imgur.com/8APkjm5.png
feb 21 2001 - clear evidence describing the instrument exists and people discussing - https://web.archive.org/web/20010710...html?item=4896
nov 13 2001 - still fighting mistress in castle, description is consistent with the difficulty of pulling her - https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/...8&p=2#comments

So I think this is definitely correct and in era. Wonderful find!

The only remaining question I think is still the relationship with Helsia. It's clear Helsia was around in 2002 and even then there was some question around whether she was a PH for Mistress L. and then she was promptly removed in 2003 revamp. See https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/npc.html?id=10212 specifically "It seems she is the PH of Mistress Latazura. She drops the BP/robe gems for armor quest too."

Do we have any evidence that Helsia is actually in era? Is it possible Mistress L. should simply replace her?

"Took about 6 deaths but i found out, if there is a full spawn in the tower you can single pull this guys with 0 to 1 add. Being a pally my pull spell is cease. I stood between the 2 icys at the entrane door to the tower and popped her from across the room. ran down the ramp in the tower that drops into the water and did not stop till i was at the zone out and i stopped."

Was still in tower June 19, 2002. https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/...8&p=2#comments

100% She is a tower mob in our timeline where helsa is.
