i dont think ill touch 4.0, 3.0/3.5 is'nt that bad to play, but adnd is the best, if to whom is playing the dnd set in norrath, just play with eq adventures book, they have set rules for it being in norrath, i dont know the rules of how its ran with the dice, i may go to my local bookmans and buy a copy
i was going to try 4.0 but tards on amazon and other sites want a shit load of cash for em, f that but if you're new to dnd, play the 3.5 rules, its simple and fun

Played a barbarian in 3.5. Used her to just grapple / choke / wrestle people down a lot. She lost her hand protecting an old man from thieves, turns out the old man was an accomplished weaponsmith. He grafted a very large flail to my wrist nub. I then went on to bash and smash and ruin everyone's day, although choking people with my left hand just wasnt the same.
Also played a sorcerer in pathfinder, which is basically 3.51, that was pretty cool.

I grew up on D&D. played 2nd since the young years moved into 3rd when it came out... grew a paladin. had pink platemail. me and my brothers' characters got so high level that we just had to retire them as gods. hohoho! Yeah little kids can't balance experience.
That stopped fer a while, then I played for a semester in college... I just wanted to minmax and play the game like a game... ya know, be the most badass motherfuckering rogue with hide skill x23 at level 6 who could do whatever the fuck I wanted... but everyone else was all roleplaying and shit! Most of the time I just sat there waiting for people to shut the fuck up, then I could attack something or roll a d20, get a 2, and successfully hide with a 25. Yeah so I stopped. Wish I could play again. Like that norrath idea, I want to run a baldur's gate campaign with people who haven't played it. Yeah, it may be kinda unoriginal, but I tend to be really good with remakes and make them interesting.

I used to think 3.0 was the worst thing WoTC could possibly come up with. Then 4.0 came out.

3.0's not that bad, though its like the mmo industry, they dumb the shit down because future generations are being dumbed down

tbh THAC0 was pretty retarded.
DM: In the chest, you find a suit of chainmail. Player: SWEET! I put it on! DM: Ok. Mark down on your sheet -4ac. Player: Wait, is it cursed? DM: No no it's just normal chainmail, which is -4ac. Player: What? chainmail is worse than wearing nothing? DM: Er no no.. negative AC is good. Player: ...what?

Played original AD&D (refuse to call it 1st edition) when it first came out in late 70's ...was in HS. My group played often(too often) until about the 2nd year of college. The friend who introduced me to the game still plays weekly with his friends. Most of them are my age an older( late 40's).'
I sat in on a few of their 2nd edition games long ago but did not find it as fun. Have been a spectator on 3.0, 3.5, and 4.0. The game is too bogged down with rules now IMO. It literally takes an hour or more to run one encounter. And they have brought computers and LCD projectors and other crap into it. Doesnt look like fun at all to me now.
