Spiderling silk alternative sources?

I'm leveling my blacksmithing up past 200, which means doing Fine Plate. Fine plate requires Leather Padding, which in turn requires Silk Thread which comes from Spiderling Silk. Is there any way to acquire Spiderling Silk aside from annihilating everything that moves in a newbie zone?

I feel bad utterly dominating a low level area intended for fresh characters, but there doesn't seem to be any alternative. I can't even just kill the spiderlings, because practically everything in a newbie zone is a PH for them and they'll quickly run out if I don't clear the rest as well.

I feel like a jerk every time a fresh level 1 logs on and wanders around the devastated newbie area, looking in vain for something to kill, as I mercilessly slaughter everything in sight. Seriously, it looks like a bomb has gone off.. corpses scattered everywhere. But I'll still do it, I'll endure the grumbling and harumphing and disappointed looks, because I need those juicy, juicy skill ups so badly.
