I'm happy to hear that you already know those problems and I'm glad I didn't jump right into a stupid rant about the guy when you mentioned your wife watching him.
I seldom have the time to just grab random selections of audio stuff people recommend but I am kinda curious your thoughts. Probably its all correct in that audio. The interesting thing I've been learning is how the way Christianity today has Osteens and a bunch of proclaimed Christians who don't care about what Jesus has to say is the same way it was in the Victorian era and presumably, since always. The victorian era stuff is interesting because you can find good writings in english with descriptions of society and its all the same as today, almost without exception.

Matthew 7:21-23
That said. I dont think he will say he does not know Joel. Unless someone has any smoking guns.

I do not disagree with either of you. This started far earlier than any American history, and the Catholic church sure was greedy, sometimes evil, sometimes decent... as institutions go. The influence on Western culture at large is undeniable.
But there was a specific effort in American history that continues to this day to keep your average evangelical under the impression that anything which resembles a socialist belief is inherently evil, which is preposterous, the Bible is full of messages about sharing resources and mutual support and all that kind of stuff, obviously. Those episodes are more of an origin story of the American megachurch. It's usually an interesting podcast in general, sometimes his guests can get annoying or hard to listen to. Side note: we've been watching a six part documentary on the history of pornography and it's fascinating how often there's porn built into religious texts and churches themselves, among a bunch of other things

Osteen is a false prophet. Jesus promised there would be plenty of those.

Osteen isnt a prophet though, just a motivator who uses gods word and Jesus's teaching to help spread motivation and hope, and to also get himself into heaven probably, but also because he's probably a hopelessly romantic wishful thinker with a lot of energy and drive and also an appreciation for comfortable things I'm not that different. I like jetski's and existential morality and darkelves.

I think of guys like him as Deepak Chopra. Incidentally, my wife has a lot of Deepak's books as well. That dude sure loves the word quantum. I refuse to discuss bitcoin or cryptocurrency in this thread now, I will only discuss profitable psuedosciences
