Yeah, it's really healthy for the game, cos it provides a decent sump.

Leave Night Harbor and the lag improves a lot. They added some inventory (region-specific banks and other stuff) that really fucked Night Harbor up.
The movement is solid IMO.

Sounds like you hardly put any time into the game and called it quits?
Unless I missed something in the settings, pressing the movement key to move forward seems to lock you in autowalking forward until you stop it.

The performance was so bad, I couldn't even move half of the time.

This is probably inflammatory and shouldn't be posted outside of Rants and Flames, but I think a lot of people have really terrible PC's and are confused that their 20 year old laptop can run P99 but struggles to run MnM.

I have a 9800x3d and 4080 and even I struggle to maintain 40 FPS on the 20+ year old MMO that is WoW.

I don't mean to attack or upset anyone, but I do think you should at least tell us what type of hardware you're using when you make comments about performance because in a lot of instances I don't think your gaming rig would run most modern MMOs. Is unfair feedback to single MnM out in that regard.

I will be buying Monsters and Memories and likely staying subscribed simply because it's an indie game.

I'll probably not have time to play, but I'll log in occasionally to check it out. The alternative is to bash it like a fuckin loser, and go back to suckling the toxic teat and licking the grimey boot of modern AAA gaming and companies like Blizzard, EA, etc.

Nothing will ever beat EQ2's ridiculous hardware requirements on release. I even bought a new mid-range PC at the time to play it and the frame rate was still abysmal.

So when is the last time that you played WoW? And I mean retail. Not classic.

A lot of my friends who have 30 series cards can't even queue for EPIC BGs anymore because they drop down to 5-15 FPS during any major battle.

And no, WoW barely uses your GPU. That's why upgrading to a 4080 made no measurable difference, but upgrading my processor did.

This is well established. It's why I specifically went out and bought a 9800x3d after conferring with the community.

Which it is really crummy and makes me mad to think about. Most of my friends can't afford to upgrade their processors because they would also have to purchase a new motherboard and new DDR5 RAM.

I genuinely don't understand how Battlegrounds that used to run spectacularly on what would now be 10+ year old PC's struggle to run on modern high end gaming rigs. The character models and maps are the same as they were 12+ years ago, yet now they run like crap even though our hardware is much more powerful.

Yeah but you can guess, right? If all hardware is operating within specifications between two identical systems and one runs the same software slower than the other, then other software running on the slower machine must be to blame. I have my p99 laptop gated to windows 8 and even though it can't run M&M the only bloat on the machine is Windows. Maybe M&M will support native Linux and if it does maybe I'll check it out one day because I'm not using anything else for my real system(s).

I’ll be playin’ EverQuest Legends, so I will. Monsters and Memories askin’ for quid or tenner when it’s the bleedin’ whales that should be payin’ for the whole thing. That’s the way of MMOs these days, especially if they don’t want to crash and burn, y’know?
