Who is to say that it would split the population? Sounds to me like most of you are not interested and would not leave the original server.

Why should it be any business of yours if 50-100 people (who may not be playing now anyways so there may not even be a population loss) would ask if it's possible to put another server up?

Are you buying the new server and maintaining the costs to keep it running?

Would 50-100 people be happy playing with that population? If not, would it be a waste of time, effort and maintenance monies?

Does Rogean want more servers on his hands? More to go wrong, more phone calls when things go wrong. Maybe he'd like the idea?[You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

The whole thing smells of "there's backing for the idea, but is it realistic?"...

The thing is.. anybody can set up and run a server...

If somebody was serious about setting up a second fresh server and was gonna front the money for server costs and whatever... maybe they should be PMing nilbog or rogean etc to see about working out an agreement.

Not that I think setting up a fresh clone of P99 is necessarily a good idea

It's been attempted in the past I believe, but they are very defensive with the awesome source code they have developed.

But to be honest it seems like the project has stagnated and it may be time for them to pass off the torch and take credit for ENORMOUS contributions to EQEMU as a whole and move on if they are tired/bored with p99 in general.

I wouldn't blame them they are volunteers heh.

eh I don't think they've given up on the project yet.. last patch was just over a month ago.

I'm sure they are working on stuff a little at a time... it's not gonna be as fast as regular development of a game because this is all volunteer work in their spare time.

I think people asking to set up a fresh server don't realize how much extra work they asking of these guys.

If somebody was super serious about doing it though.. forum here isn't the place to be chatting it up.. should be PM with the project managers.

Sounds like you need to stick to 1-player games. I recommend Skyrim.

He was asking not demanding, and considering there is like 50 low pop emulation servers on the server list I assumed (yeah yeah I know the saying) it's not that cost heavy.

If so kinda sad people are paying a lot of $ for servers with like 4 pop lol.

I'm no server expert lol

but i'm pretty sure the costs change based on the amount of data / bandwidth a server uses?

so a dead server might not cost as much as a more popular one.

This isn't like just signing up for cable internet where you get a one size fits all package lol.

I'm not expert either, guy just through out an idea/suggestion and all of a sudden he had a sea of haters so I thought I would play devil's advocate.

a lot of these assumptions are based on needing new hardware, it might be as simple as running another emu on same server or in another VM. Its just an idea, not a demand or expectation.
