Default Big grey background when I die

I just started out and I accidentally attacked some NPC that killed me instantly... I get sent to some forest, apparently, but I can't see any land, only a big grey background. I can see my character and a few monsters, but they're constantly falling down, like they're in a loop. Any help?

Um, did I lose all my items and money?[You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] Someone gave me 60 platinum coins... I was only level one when I died.

Erm, is it too late to loot my body? I've died several times already in that forest. The first time I died, I was still in the starter area.
