Long story short some guy came into IRC threatening to ddos attack the server because he and/or his friend(s) didn't get immediate GM assistance with some lost items (I think he got scammed out of them? I dunno, the player and petition he referenced doesn't exist).

There's nothing I can do about it really. Even if I wanted to help him, he didn't make reference any valid petitions or accounts, but he also came in probably looking for a reason to flaunt his shiny new rental botnet.

Yea what's sad is it's become even easier nowadays to rent ddos botnets. People can pay something like $100-$200 per day or maybe even per hour. More and more computers out there are being infected with trojans to build these networks. The server has been picking up a lot of players recently, and with more players means more douchebags with the attitude to ruin everyone's fun because the volunteers of this project didn't immediately jump to his aid.

Working in software development, and playing MMORPGs for over 11 years, I would have to say that the term "douchebags" fits this kind of behavior quite nicely...except the fact douche has an actual purpose. These morons on the other hand are just impatient asses.

I applaud your efforts p1999 team, and hope my wife and I can play again as soon as it is fixed.
