Mainland China now has more cases of coronavirus than it had of SARS, a respiratory infection that spread across China in 2002 and 2003 and killed 774 people in 17 countries. During the SARS outbreak, China had 5,327 cases and 349 deaths, according to the World Health Organization.
The number of confirmed cases increased to more than 7,700 worldwide by early Thursday, according to Chinese officials and the World Health Organization, with all but 68 of the infections taking place in mainland China. On Wednesday, there were about 6,000 infections worldwide.

You guys should hop on Harvard X and do a course in community health to learn the importance in preventative measures and primary health care in controlling epidemics.
Your two ideas are its a conspiracy to cause fear or a conspiracy to downplay. The truth is in the middle; its just another flu, flu is sometimes deadly, some flus particularly so. China is pretty experienced in managing flu epidemics, likely things will be fine: news papers make their money sensationalising. Just hope it doesn’t make it to America because the states are ideologically opposed to public investment on preventative measures and primary healthcare even though the returns on investment are incredible.

Denying a flu outbreak is happening and taking no preventative measures etc is as bad as rural africans hiding people who are clearly infected and suspecting the government is the one causing the outbreak (ala smallpox). Only they have an excuse for the low education level. Smallpox was eradicated by vacination, its not a theory. It happened. Flu is real. You can pretend it isn't but alas it cares little of your skin colour, race, accent or what you do or dont believe in. It infects you all the same and if its nasty flu (e.g. sars or spanish) then you roll your D10 and take your chances. I guess we will soon find out which it is. <shrug>
