main turnoffs of games after eq1 (and later in eq1, post velious):

-items with required and recommended level (ruined twinking, bad for economy)
-auction house (ruined player based economy)
-bind on equip items (again, ruined economy)
-pointless quests (kill x amount of mobs, loot x amount of items) just for exp
-instances (again bad for economy, bad for true competitiveness)
-generic gear at every level, like wow had tunic "of the eagle", wristbands "of the eagle" at every level.. eq1 had is right, random nameds dropped the gear.. and some gear dropping in a lvl 20 dungeon was as valuable as something that may have dropped in a raid zone.. a true supply and demand economy
-again with generic gear, like the pvp sets.. everyone in wow (for example), had pretty much the same shit and looked the same at every tier of levels
-not a fan of mounts either, or stuff that makes travel too easy and trivializes someone like a druid or wizard who has the unique ability to port

im missing alot, but these are some big ones.. much is economy-based.. eq1 economy pre SOL is the best

my dream game would be eq1-style pre SOL, with a solid true WORLD pvp system (and some sort of arena with teams built in i would say too, by not the way wow did it), but also updating the combat/abilities/etc.. eq1 is obviously very raw in this compared to a wow

not happening tho

items with recommended level was a good thing imo. too bad they never put level cap on epics and they should never have been MQable. i HOPE epic quests are once again huge and epic. i hope its a little more balanced tho. lol rogue epic compared to mage or bard.

AH was good for people who hated sitting in ec tunnel all day. it did ruin the player interaction involved in trading but lets be honest, some people might have well been a NPC sitting there all day with unnegotial prices. i was never a trader so i really didnt care about the bazaar. i just liked training people in ec tunnel.

BoE, meh tbh i dont care, not a trader.

pointless quests, its gonna happen but i do hope for more MEANingful quests.

instances, a neccesary evil. imagine trying to do an instance in vanilla wow, it would have never happened. shit would have been perma camped. eq next is gonna be fucking huge. unless dungeons are as big as antonica, shits gonna need to be instanced or something. small shit should be instanced, raid mobs however i feel differently towards. im all for a mix. i hope best in slot is almost impossible to achieve.

the generic gear thing was cool imo. items in eq are retarded. everyone wearing the same goddamn thing. i hope there are ton of items like "of the blank" where people can build their chars differently. i hope stats matter. seriously only a handful of items for some classes to get. like boots for instance, GEBS all the way to velious for some people. item selection and player-made gear was really pathetic in classic/kunark. very few choices for most classes outside weapons and even then the selection isnt that big.

dont care about mounts either way. i liked vanilla wows flightpath system.

I don't think sony will be getting any more money from me in subscription fees, but we'll see what happens with EQnext. Who knows, maybe they will do something right for once.

I'm sorry to say that I have suffered through years and years of highly anticipated games disappointing greatly (XvT, D3, EQ2 it goes on and on) and while there is always the chance a game nails it, all the rhetoric and released design details so far from EQN point to it being pretty ordinary. The fact they are hyping it lowers my expectations even more.

Being able to physically change the environment or create my own maps etc. is not the way of the future IMO, and has no appeal to me whatsoever, and shows me SOE aren't understanding what made the original EQ great. But then, I really think they never did get it.

So... whatever. I'd love to be wrong.
