If Eivy killed the most recent spawn, he/she should know when the repop was due. So a 20 minute AFK is a bit long. You also engaged first.

However, camping long spawns sucks and everyone goes AFK between spawns. So it was kind of a dick move to do that over a 2k fishbone earring.

So, legally, I think you are in the right, but it was still somewhat of a dick move.

The server is overrun with people that have poor understanding of the rules. Then those people use their own wrong interpretations to kick others out of camps, take their named spawns, etc like what happened to snergle. This is why a community poll of illiterates might not be in the best interest of anyone.

This is only my 3rd Fishbone Earring on P99 (or even on Live, for that matter), but what I've learned from my time camping him is this: If you don't know within a pretty narrow span of time that he is going to spawn, you're really camping a logged timestamp so you can be paying attention at the correct moment for the next spawn. This is what I've been doing these last few days, in an effort to score an earring for a new alt. During this time, I encountered Eivy, L60 epic ranger from <Fires of Heaven>, also trying to bag Hadden.



So I logged in at Hadden camp about 18 minutes prior to the spawn. I see Eivy is there again. I decided that since he was there first, I'll give him a 20-count before I start casting my 6.1 second nuke, and if he engages Hadden before I have the kill locked up with a second nuke, I'll cancel it and let him have the kill. This is more of a grace period than I would expect to be given if I were in his shoes - if you want exclusive access to a mob, you have to be actively camping it. This is what I've read from the CSR guys again and again, and I believe it's fair.

Hadden spawns, with no fishing pole, at the expected time:

So what do you guys think? Eivy turned this over to the GMs via a petition, and also /tellblasted my guildleader (Dulas of Azure Guard) just like he indicated he would - but if the community can convince me I was in the wrong, I'll hand the earring to Eivy and resume the hunt.

People who think OP didn't give enough time should try Seafuries some time. Those things rarely stand for more then 3 seconds before being tagged.

I mean, yes it sucks to camp something for hours, and lose it because you looked away for a moment, but that's kinda of the nature of the beast that is p99. It's sort of the reason the term "poopsocking" even exists, right?

Overall this thread has been fantastic, but not quite up to its potential.
