This is a bit misleading because Japanese people use the Gregorian calendar and it's 2025 just like everyone else.
What this refers to is the legacy calendar system still used for some formal documents. So it's not "7" but rather "Reiwa-7", using a combination of the Emperor's name and the number of years since he was enthroned. Acknowledged as archaic, but hey, tradition!

What is going on out there? I keep seeing people talking about trump attacking Canada and how we'll win a war in 72 hours and the US attacking Greenland and it keeps popping up are we literally this crazy that we'd jump from Iranian anti gravity drones in NJ to the USA is declaring war on Canada?
