I heard the Consumer Price Index is unrealistic, due to the weights (I believe relative importance is their term or something) it sets for things. An explanation from the Bureau of Labor Statistics:

“In calculating the index, price changes for the various items in each location are aggregated using weights, which represent their importance in the spending of the appropriate population group”

So if you want to make your CPI look better, just crank down the relative weight of importance of gas. Pretend that the entire country only needs to commute 5 miles to and from work each day, for example

The CPI is basically whatever they want it to be. If they want it to look better and not alarm people, they adjust the rates of relative importance

I’m torn on what to do here. I normally donate, last weekend I walked past the Salvation Army staff with their jangling bells and just said hi and didn’t

It’s not the staff’s fault, or the kid’s fault that the Salvation Army leaders are partisan propaganda pushers. I dunno, I’ll probably end up donating still if I see another one, I felt bad last time

Edit: Hopefully lefties will be inspired to donate extra now due to Salvation Army apparently pushing the same political positions as them publicly to help compensate for conservatives stopping donating
