Amelinda once told me in IRC that she feared for her life and thought Cast was going to come and kill her, lol.

I've always been curious Ephi, but do you know the reason certain logs aren't available to GMs and only viewable by bog/rogean? I would imagine that once you are a server GM you would be trusted enough to view pretty much any logs the server may have.. so what's the reason?

Is it because they are stored in the db itself somewhere and Rogean/bog are the only ones with access to that? Or is it some sort of information-restriction thing they have in place due to a past issue or just a general precautionary measure?
I think Ephi has access to all the logs now. Before August of last year, there wasn't anything really a guide/gm could pull up. I think Uthgaard was able to since he was also a dev and had access. Now Guides can look up trades and stuff. The older older stuff needs to be looked up by E,R,or N but still able to. But over all Rogean is/has busted his butt making CSR easier on the staff.

Wait a second, so are you telling me that you gave someone your login info and they stole your stuff? That blows my mind.

Ahh cool, thats a good thing to hear. I remember having to wait weeks for raid disputes to be resolved, and usually it was cited that we had been waiting on Rogean to log on and review them, which of course did nothing but iritate everyone involved, including Rogean himself.

Having all of the information at the fingertips of people entrusted to carry out the function of a GM on the server seems like a no-brainer win-win.

It's also a lot about separation of powers. Rogean/nilbog can do whatever they want since they own the box, but the rest of us are volunteers and frankly should always be scrutinized by Rogean/nilbog (not the players, you guys don't know what you're talking about most of the time, no offense). I think it's critical that one person not have too much access or control for fear of abuse.

I traded my in-game capabilities for log searching capabilities, basically. Plus, it fits how much time I have to contribute (which isn't much).

I agree with seperation of powers with regards to who has DB access/code access whatever, but when it comes to log access, unless they can be abused in some tangible way I think individuals who handle CSR should be able to be trusted with any and all logs.. otherwise why are they handling CSR in the first place? =p

That was the crux of my original question, because if there were logs in the database itself I could then understand wanting to restrict access to them, because you probably don't want GMs poking around too much in the db.

Anyhoo, sounds much better than it was a year ago. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Yeah, well don't let my response confuse you too much. I'm not suggesting that there are members of staff that need to be watched (certainly not, in fact). But when you take a role on staff here you should expect to be watched and scrutinized by the maintainers, regardless of your access level or role. It's the way it should be, and is best for the community.

I would love to be a GM and give something back to the community but I'm not willing to go into witness protection to do so. Kind of pointless anyways at the speed in which identities get compromised around here.

Damn I was sleeping.

I took beovvulfs shit because I thought his account was being stripped on the red server -- He came back on red and asked us to give him raid gear, we geared him and the next day we see him hes stripped again by rettiwalk(known as reddi here). I logged on the blue server and took that gear as a precaution.

fact is, most of the blue gear was lended from northwest, who rettiwalk also stripped.

So get fucked.
