because the politicians whom they elect actively work against their interests while insisting they are oppressed.
The elected politicians are just riding the wave of moronic public opinion.

It's easy to blame the powerless. Especially if your a moron.

How did you average Clinton voter ever think up something like the NAFTA? They didn't. They might have been herded into pro-NAFTA and anti-NAFTA stances, but the vast majority of these people had little to no understanding of it.

They voted for Clinton because he went on stage and talked to poor people and said "I feel your pain" suggesting that he had ways to improve the economy and make their lives better.

Long story short -- what Clinton and his cronies did is the opposite of what he was elected to do. And he had very good reason to assume 20 years from when he instituted NAFTA -- that would be the case.

It's fine though, because by then technology will bail us out right? Well this is what people in power tend to assume. Just put it off until the options get better via technology.

...

The point is -- the logic of our system -- a representative democracy -- requires that these tools represent those that elect them. Not come up with ways to con them, lead them by the nose, and enrich themselves.

Quick skimming of the news... DOW is down ~350. Markets uncertain.

And I don't care about your children. You shouldn't be allowed to reproduce organically anyway.

Listen, very few people can actually comprehend and think strategically in timescales that have any real meaning. Star Craft was never designed to appeal to the Julian Delphiki II GMO transhuman [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] types.

Have you ever visited a farm? It's a psychologically eye opening experience.

One would hope those who farm us are the kind of farmers who value us as we are, not just as fertilizer or dogfood.

Right now America is much more like a post industrial abbatior of pork than a simple lovingly cared for farm.

Ironically we as human chattel feed a beast that is invisible and unknowable to the salt of the earth.

Easily disproved as false and misleading.

Simply put, Subtitle E of Public Law 107-296 (establishing the Department of Homeland Security, DHS) placed immigration and related functions in the scope of the newly established agency. Section G of Subtitle E defined the term “unaccompanied alien child” as a minor under the age of 18, lacking lawful immigration status in the US, and primarily, an individual for whom “there is no parent or legal guardian in the United States” or “no parent or legal guardian in the United States is available to provide care and physical custody.” This did not mandate that children be separated from their families, but instead, created a legal classification for children with no parent or guardian present or for whom no parent or legal guardian was available to provide care and custody.

Debate surrounding Public Law 107-296 was ill-defined, with many simply sharing the screenshot as a vague indication the policy of family separation came before the debate about it in May and June 2018. Many attributed its passage to Democrat lawmakers. However, the bill was passed in November 2002 under a Republican majority, and it simply defined an “unaccompanied alien child” as one with no available parent or guardian. It made no provision for separating a child from parents or legal guardians or for detaining any child separated by DHS agencies from their parent, and it was primarily passed by Republicans.

i don't see this as conflicting with what I said. democracy is "rule by fools." the hope is that fools are sufficiently varied, uninformed and lazy enough that their delusions cancel one another out, allowing the estranged whispers of sensibility to flutter in through the void. unfortunately social media, information technology, nihilism and declining mean IQs are swatting the gnat of reason before it even has a chance to hatch.
I see the conflict. You view the politicians as proactive, and I view them as reactive.
