At the temple in Chiang Mai with a shit ton of stairs. My favorite Italian I've ever met here, Giuseppe. He got food poisoning in Pai. He came out of the bathroom and said, "I've never had this. How do you say? Sick from both ends." Dude was barfing and shitting simultaneously in the shower. The next day I broke off from the group and brought him Gatorade and saltines. He hooked up with one of the Swedish girls who was traveling with us.

Our scooter gang, fueling up in Chiang Mai before the trip to Pai.

At a reservoir outside of Chiang Mai. The water was green. We didn't swim.

Backroads of Chiang Mai. I believe we were returning from a local watering hole, a big waterfall with a natural rock formation which formed a slide.

not to be a dick but Pai is where all the tourists go who read about how great Pai is. it's not that great in comparison to other options up north.
Yea I didnt have much time in the north, I wanted to get to the islands down South. Just four days in Chang Mai and two in Pai. My local friends in Chang Mai said Pai was a tourist trap but I still enjoyed it. I do think it had the best night market though (where I didnt see the same vendor wares copied 100 times on a street).

All the places we went to in Koh Lanta did not offer insurance on scooters =/ and it was the only way to really get around the island. Luckily no one had an accident while were there.

I had a motorcycle accident in Laos like 4 years ago and all I can say is... it's best to not have an accident in these countries. You are pretty much on your own and I don't think they have a word for ambulance.

unless you are rich and have decent connections to locals who are also rich, just like any 3rd world country.

Medical Insurance is cheap and most, if not all, jobs include you on their insurance too. Plus Thailand has free medical care for most stuff anyway. Not sure how it applies to foreign tax payers, though. It probably doesn't.

I've had a few minor injuries taken care of in hospital and never had to pay anything. Nothing too serious, though. I had some stitches in my face for flying headfirst into the side of a pick-up truck. A few broken fingers from various crashes.

Friend of mine had surgery on his hand three times. Had to have pins and shit, was pretty grim. Think he only paid the equiv of 200usd.

It's all fantasy and romance to the shit hits the fan in one of those shitty countries. At this point in your life if your worried about paying for medical expenses maybe you should get of that toy dirt bike and get a career son?
