On the fence as to whether or not I should take the time to give this game a try. I had played HoN for the better part of a year and while I wasn't amazing at it, I did love the way the game's mechanics worked (deny strategy in particular).
The thing that I did hate was the player base, it got to the point where I'd automute my entire team at the beginning of a match out of reflex because 99/100 times they'd be screaming their autistic asses off.

I heard the community in LoL was a lot better but the game is just a dumbed down version. Can anyone who's played both confirm/deny? Note: I've never played DOTA.

Problem is, playing pure support in LoL is boring as fuck...
Can tell you right now you do not play enough of the game if you're going to spout this nonsense. You are playing the lane wrong if you find bot lane to be boring. It's the most aggressive and dangerous lane to play because its a constant 2v2, with the option of it quickly becoming 2v3 or 2v4. Remarks like this irritate the fuck out of me.

I've watched streams of the rainmain in 2k elo pugs when he gets stuck as support he admits its lame as fuck, hes just a ward bot as he puts it, he basically spends all his time buying Gp5 items and placing wards.

You ever play support bot lane? Its fun if you're the ADC, its not as fun if you're playing ward wars etc. Give me the jungle, I'll give you a fun game... give me support, and I'll get on with it. grudgingly. No need to get upset, we all enjoy different roles.

LOL community not much better than HoN, but they do have a system that removes toxic players.

Dumbed down? Hardly. HoN has retardedly OP champs and requires you to kill your own minions as a "strategic" advantage. LoL fixes both of those, so I'd say it's more balanced or focused, but definitely not dumbed down.

Do they have something in place that replaces denying your opponent gold/xp as a strategy?

Yes. If you consistently land hits on your opponents even if they have sustain they usually become intimidated making it rather easy to zone them. In LoL you interact more against the enemy champs then you do in say DoTA, HoN etc... In those you concentrate on just rice farming.

there is no strategy to denying, despite what HoN nerds say.

it's bad game design, plain and simple.

i'm willing to bet that it wasn't even intended in original DotA, but was so common that they left it in.

in LoL, you actually have to beat opponents, not just bore them to death.

...so there's no resource management in the game? It's just about the APM twitch clicking?
