In the recent years, politics on the whole has shaken and fragmented the parties.

The Right has experienced with "Trumpism" and "Never-Trumpers".

The Left experiences it in a number of ways as well.

A small but vocal portion of the Left has started moving into a more authoritarian place, meanwhile the Left wing establishment embraces Neo-liberalism.

There's a big chunk of Leftists in the country who haven't followed either of these groups, ideologically.

They stayed put. Resembling leftists from maybe 10-15 years ago.

These people feel as if they've been left behind or they're at a crossroads.

I've even heard some of them think they're conservative now.

Not true. They're still leftists. They've just been left behind. (in my opinion)

The more leftist politicians in Washington lose touch with their voters, the more they'll start voting in more hardline progressives. This doesn't always mean the Authoritarian types like I mentioned earlier, but more "Democratic Socialist" types.

We're already starting to see that swing with the election up in New York a few weeks ago.

neoliberalism is to the right of the traditional democratic party. it started with boy clinton. if the base stayed where they were, it's a bit dishonest to say the country moved to the left.

unless you're claiming the republicans are left wing now, which is patently ridiculous.

I wouldn't say the base moved more to the left, but it's possible they're looking in that direction as a solution to being heard.

My theory is that establishment politicians are out of touch with the left base that they only hear/see the loud and vocal fringe of the left and attempt to appease it because they think that's the base, when it's not.

So you have average, normal leftists thinking "Well, shit...we're not being represented. Let's try something different and ideologically pure."

When in reality, it's the establishment politicians who are the real problem.

That's my opinion anyway.

That's not what I'm saying.

The politicians are moving more to the Left, but only superficially.

The base doesn't like the fringe and doesn't like being ignored by politicians.

It's a weird, tangled scenario and I'm probably not explaining it the best.

i understand what you're going for but disagree with the notion that being nice to transes is authoritarian and it's clearly not an economic position. its libertarian like you.
