I’ll still play devil’s advocate and say maybe the reason Hamlin didn’t want to say the cause is he’s worried it’s a medical defect that might affect his career if he somehow intends to stay in the NFL

Why not just lie then and say it was due to whatever the medical term is for a hard hit to the chest causing cardiac arrest. That’s what I personally assumed it was, probably a lot of other people too. But it turns out that situation isn’t all that common in football despite some brutal hard hits to the chest
