I don't exactly disagree with you. I'd say read books 1-7, then do the cliff notes on 7-11. Definitely read 12+ though, Sanderson does a great job of actually making stuff happen.

The Gathering Storm is IMO, the best in the series.
Along those lines: Read Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn Trilogy. It's ...just..wow.

Hopefully you aren't misdirecting me like the person who got me to buy George RR Pedophile(Martin)'s fire & ice series. I read the first book and couldn't bring myself to even start the second.
