I’m sure the colloquial usage of the word wasn’t even considered. “Holocaust” is used so frequently by the alternative “dictionary” definition that of course it makes complete sense for that to be an acceptable name. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard someone use the word “holocaust” to NOT refer to Hitler’s act of genocide.

Just as “Holodomor” simply means “death by hunger” in Ukrainian, and doesn’t refer to Stalin’s act of systematically killing his own people.

I just think it should be obvious that edgelords naming their guild after an act of genocide don't really care about the academic definition of a word.
