Where I live we have Amish farms that are well insulated from the larger world. They sell eggs, produce, baked goods, furniture, textiles etc

sometimes I wanna go join the Amish then i remember their houses don't have electricity. Some of their barns do (yeah they can give power to the animals, not themselves, christian humility at it's best)

dude's story is insane, if you took his actual life story and combined it with the south park nascar premise or Talladega nights it'd be a hilarious movie

oh yeah i've known mennonite people they are solid AF but I was thinking about going full hardcore Amish mode, hat beard and overalls.

it varies by community, but some of them have water tanks with septic systems, or they have wind/solar powered pumps.

their whole thing is the separation from the outside world, so they don't have wires or pipes coming from the heathenous cities

one thing i always thought was cool about the Amish is that nobody is required to stay in the community, everyone that comes of age is given the choice, if the kids choose to leave they are given money and resources to make a life

it's not something casual or taken lightly but the people can choose for themselves to live that life or not

yeah... at like age 16 they go on rumspringa and 10% choose to join the world of the "english" they call anyone who isn't Amish english but they have like 500 kids so it doesn't matter if they lose a few

but why not let english people spend a few weeks with the amish and see if they wanna join, i'll bet you alot would choose to join

interesting fact is although they live such simple lives, many amish families are worth millions. wealth is generational and they sell their products but they don't buy much from the outside world, and their whole community is like a religious installation so they get various tax exemptions
