I fear these posters may be right. Cazic Thule help us all.
I'd say just wait a week if you don't want to fight the crowds. Gives time for the people that forgot how hard it is to quit and for the remainers to move past the newbie zones.

Also, since we are adding servers and are concerned about cost, why allow boxing across blue/green? Why allow that? Keep the cost down and make people decide what they are going to play. Please. If after, a server is dying, then allow it. (Like red) Only 1 server.

12,000 views of this thread within 7 hours of submission and there are still people who don't think it will hit 3k population at launch. Lol.

I think 3000 is a very realistic number. I think you underestimate how many have been waiting for this server. If not for WoW Classic, I'd say 3k would have been a minimum. Now I'm not sure. Guess we'll see [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.].
My skepticism comes from the fact that there's not really much for 3000 people to do. Back on live there was a lot of rping, people just enjoying being in norrath, and they didn't really know what to expect. I remember when I started on live just seeing characters hanging out in random taverns in cities and what not. I don't see many people staying logged in if it's an fte race that they win 10% of the time just for xp mobs at level 10. Of course I'm an idiot and usually wrong... I mean we have hundreds of people on blue who still stare at walls for hours on end (3? 4?) years after velious.

I'm not doubting the number of interested people in this server, just how willing they'll be to be in game doing almost nothing

There were not 3000 people per server at launch (or shortly after) in general. Not on most servers at least, from what I have read and my experience on Fenin Ro. I mean, not that many people were into that stuff yet. And more importantly, not everyone who would had up to date computers, or computers at all. And they kept adding servers as needed. I started watching a college roommate play about a month after launch. Then was playing 2 months later, after playing his paladin quite a bit.

I spent a lot of time not leaving Faydark early on, but went on adventures here and there. Playing during prime time, there were maybe 15-25 people working Crushbone. Greater Faydark had a good number of folks but it wasn't like EC or anything. I had Dagnor's Cauldron to myself mostly! Haha. The rest of the world didn't seem horribly overcrowded. And I popped on other servers just to check it out and I never saw some crazy over crowded thing. They made enough servers to keep things enjoyable.

Maybe that 3000 number is the total daily players? Or at the end of Velious or something. But I doubt that either. They didn't divulge numbers then and there was no /who all count. But 3000 was certainly nothing normal. And there are many many servers.
The 3000 wasn't referring to launch, just average highs I remember seeing probably around kunark launch. There were easily 100+ in loio and sk was my haunt, usually 90+ in prime time in South katana.

Have you played any MMO made in the past 15 years? Having nothing to do is the current meta of MMO design. Sadly that isn't really a joke, evidenced by the amount of people playing p99 daily despite many having played it for far longer than the amount of content a stagnant emulator could provide. I know people who are still making twinks to play even though they intend on dropping blue for green.

Not to say that the people fearmongering about barren wastelands with no living mobs aren't correct, because that will likely be the case. It's just that.. well.. that's the way it is, and it's not really a big deal. Again, there's indisputable evidence. People are paying 15$ a month to play WoW, which they already payed to play 15 years ago. On top of that they are competing with tons of players for quest mobs, some of which take 5~ minutes to respawn. It's even worse than EQ in some ways, since you need exact mobs to complete grinding quests.

Either way splitting the playerbase between two servers would be foolish. Again, look at WoW. Every idiot fanboy and their dog is playing on Faerlina so they can cringe on every streamer playing on Faerlina, which they all do. Why would green be any different? Who is going to volunteer to play on the dead server? Who is going to keep playing on the dead server? Who is going to have the patience or desire to reroll off the dead server? It's not like two servers would solve anything. It would only create many more problems down the road to alleviate some people's impatience at the start.

Anyway, excited to see the announcement, even if it's about what I expected. I wasn't expecting code written to control drops, though I did expect something to be in place. I suppose I thought some poor bastard would have to monitor the neckbeards in guk. Interested to see how this system works without allowing people to leech.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to all p99 staff for this amazing effort. I don't currently play on p99 or any other form of EQ, but I've been a long time fan and lurker. I plan to roll a new char on green when it launches, and I'm sure there are many out there like me.

I know this will probably fall on deaf ears, but to all of the people in this thread that have anything to say other than how awesome this is for us (i.e whiners): p99 staff do not owe you anything. How can you honestly expect a group of volunteers to make the game exactly the way YOU want it? How selfish and childish are you? You don't get to decide. End of story.

Keep up the great work p99 team and I hope all of your hard work pays off. I'm really looking forward to returning to Norrath [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Does anyone think that if all the global total man hours spent playing eq were instead put into curing cancer or something then there would be no more cancer 10 years ago?

It was at this point I decided to no longer be kind to the casuals as they have extreme short term memory. They did this to themselves, unfortunately.

This gives me a world-changing idea! On Green, the rules should be "your guild has to kill the warders AND develop a cure for cancer in order to wake the sleeper".

Ripqozko on the front of Time magazine holding his Nobel Prize 6 months into Velious. Mark my words.
