this is part of the problem. when you deny a group of people with strong in-group preference any avenue to group pride outside of racism, you end up with a certain number who say "fine, im racist then." hardly surprising when the group is reviled and the entirety of social discourse is framed in terms of group identity.

i could be wrong, but i think there was more to the rise western civilization and global hegemony than American cotton & tobacco. things liek the reformation, renaissance & industrial revolution may have played marginally larger roles. the success of whites is a result of the ideas that spawned from their cultures for whatever reasons. that doesn't excuse slavery, but framing slavery in America as somehow undermining a foundation for pride in white heritage is silly.

like it or not the civilized world was built by white men. maybe that's a bad thing. maybe it's a bad world and we should start over. any other group or collection thereof hasn't done any better though.

also, proud boys seem liek a right wing version of antifa, but infinitely more dangerous for reasons outlined above. not something any of us should be encouraging.

You could say that about any racial pride.

Why is it different for white people?

This is one of your flaws.

You preach all day about 'equality', but it's plain to see you don't want equality.

This is what causes problems.

You can't treat a certain class of people a certain way based on historical circumstances because not everyone took part or benefitted from that.

So what you call 'justice' just comes across as oppressive racism to some.

And no matter how much you try to justify it, you will always have tension because of the difference of perception.

It's why people like you are usually mid to high class white people. Never lived amongst the real, never had a job, but they lash out at the rich white people because that is what their parents are.

Their dad is rich and white.

So their own hatred of their dad morphs into this idea where everyone who is white has to pay a price, no matter their background.

You're surrounded by other rich white people who feel like you, and you imagine all white people are the same spoiled rotten privileged types.

And you are wrong. Because you are in a bubble and refuse to reach out because "ew gross poor people", but you don't say that out loud because then you'd be a bigot but you release that steam by making fun of "dumb southerners" because you can get away with it.

he wasn't arguing that it is strange to be proud because you weren't there, he was arguing that it was strange to be proud because the accomplishments upon which the pride is based are rooted in slavery, which isnt true unless all these fellows hang their identity on big tobacco and t-shirts ^^

No one would say that the symbol is the thing it represents. Meanings are fluid and can and do change.
