hubris!
hah yeah we are invincible, meteors have no chance of doing any real damage to this planet, not while off-world surveillance increases by orders of magnitude year over year.

now there is an entire branch of the U.S. military who watches space 24/7. You know who you can thank for that.

U.S. space command's area of responsibility is now from 100km altitude, to infinity. the space force's AO is literally the universe.

after that there are dozens of known viable methods of preventing meteor strikes, and whatever other classified technology not known to the public.

in the statistically improbable event that all volcanos erupt at once, the species population will take a solid hit, but otherwise be fine. Adequate genetic diversity only requires 80 breeding pairs.

Yeah, that annoying XX/XY thing, which is necessary for the species to propagate. turns out that nature in all of its wisdom, never came up with a natural purpose for mating with ones own gender.

I do like apocalypse posting. I am pretty sure that nobody knows of all potential extinction events, though, so saying "we're invincible" feels like a big stretch.

80 breeding pairs, I dunno about the genetics part but what happens when there's no water or food for those 80 pairs of people.

Like, some underground base to wait out the darkened skies? How many generations does it take? Do you know the full geological effects of all of the secondary effects from a potential meteor or comet strike, and the ensuing volcanic problems and their secondary effects?

Entropy is a fact of all existence, no machine we build lasts forever and tools to fix them don't either.

They probably have two or three underground lairs where they are constantly breeding a few hundred ppl and killing them once they hit 24 yrs in distant locations far apart from eachother. Plus Antarctica is fucking huuuuuge and we have the tech to seriously capitalize that continent. So there's probably more happening there than cosmic radiation detection.

Why kill 'em at 24? Optimal reproductive times or something?

"you cant create a simulated universe with entropy, it would be full of destruction and greed, ill prove it, give me 5 minuets in there!"

I honestly have no idea when they kill them. Just my best guess, feeling based on all of the predictive programming I've consumed voluntarily and enthusiastically.
