I've been trying to get in to beta but keep getting stuck with the messages in the character selection slots that say I don't have the latest spell files. Any suggestions? My steps so far were:

1. Make a copy of the EQ directory I use to log in to blue/red
2. Update the spell file in that directory using the link found in the beta thread
3. Use the /beta command twice on one of my existing chars
4. Log in to the EQ beta directory (yes, I make sure everything points to that directory)

What am I doing wrong?

You got further than I did. Where exactly is the Velious thread with the instructions for logging into the beta? I cannot even find a thread that tells you to make a copy of your EQ directory etc.

You don't need to copy files over or any thing like that. Just type /beta twice while logged in to the normal server, and that character is copied over to the Velious beta. Then just log on to the Velious server and your character should be available for testing.

I tried that but get the same error listed by Tunguska. That's why I figured I was doing something wrong.

Your issue is you dont need to copy any beta files to play on it. Log into blue do /beta twice then log to server select screen and choose beta server and log in.
