Culture surrounding driving and porting aren't identical. What if it was a guildie you'd never seen before/spoken to in a non-raiding guild?
Not sure, I generally try to get to know most people in the guilds I am in. If its not common practice in your guild to help eachother then I wouldn't feel obligated -- if your guildies help you with CRs or quest kills and the like then I think you should be happy to pay it back in ports, even if its a name you don't recognize.

I really don't get tells for ports much anymore. People have the good sense to know a 60 Druid has better things to do than port you for 15 platinum. That level 34 Failing Druid likely would port you for 15 plat cause he needs the money.

If I am feeling kind, and I'm not busy, I'll be porting you for free. But offering 15-50 platinum doesn't really entice me much. 100+ and I will probably port you somewhere. 300+ and I may port you from a zone I'm not in to a different zone. 1000+ and I'll consider traveling to an obscure zone to port you out of.

I don't think twice about not tipping guildies for ports. I also do not expect compensation for running across a bunch if zones to Rez them. A guildie tipping me would be weird and I wouldn't be willing to accept it (zomg unless its peridots)

The only reason to join a guild is the free ports

The monetary value of time spent on porting a guildie will pay itself back eventually I believe; your chars skills as a porter are pretty expendable and many others would be happy to do this job for the guild, free of charge.

I like to think of the guild as the people you should be helping for free, because if anyone is going to help you with things that aren't trade/sellable (ex. help out of a rough spot, a rez, some pixels, comradery on a key hunt/grind, etc.) your guild is your elf sim family; try to make it not dysfunctional with your lack of port love lol

*edit* also, lol @ the idea of mobilizing a broke guild with skimpy porters via boat

Doesn't matter. The reason to join a guild is to be together with people who you want to pull in the same direction with. You're a team. Sure you don't all help each other or play together 100% of the time, but these will be the people you turn to when you yourself need a hand (with a quest, a CR, a camp, an epic, whatever).

If you feel the people of the guild aren't worth investing time into, or that they wouldn't be there to give you a helping hand when you needed it in turn, then maybe you need to look for a new guild.

Tipping for ports is the reciprocal value of the transportation.

Guildies help each other, but ports are usually seen as free.

Why does the "favor" always fall on the service-provider?

Why is it the norm that guildies don't tip if we're all helping each other?
Because presumably guildies help you in other ways and don't ask you for plat. Clerics probably res you. Necros probably summon your corpse, etc etc. All of them help you get stuff like gear. Ports aren't really worth all that much in comparison.

Guildies ask in guild chat for ports, if you dont have time, dont reply, or explain that you are busy. Most people understand.
