And besides, the people who are getting banned likely have nothing better to do than play EQ at work or don't even work to begin with, so rerolling is what, a couple week setback dpeending on class?
What it is is a start, and it's much better than nothing. The less convenient it is for people to be complete d-bags on the server the less likely that d-bags will put in the effort.

If we can save just one child, yadda yadda blah blah etc.

Oh I agree with you. I'm mostly playing devil's advocate. Community led justice initiatives are the best way to go with what we have. But if we want a truly effective system, we need GM involvement. Unfortunately, for volunteers doing this in their free time, it's kind of hard to get that kind of commitment.

Let's make a pact. If any of us wins the powerball or becomes insanely rich by any other means... we need to hire the staff away from their jobs so they can focus on P99 exclusively.

They must also take a vow of celibacy.

I agree with the former, but the latter? They can use their lunch break for that! :P

How effectively can a blacklist or permaban be when someone can just recreate a new account? Then there's the whole quagmire that is IP bans that has been discussed ad nauseum on this forum...
That's always an option, but how long before that person ends up on the list again with their new character? Not like they went to therapy to stop being a douche online and came back with a better attitude :P

I completely agree there.

I think there should be a sticky thread titled "Asshats Non-Anonymous" where GMs, after determining that somebody has engaged in asshatery through whatever means, post the information about those players. What they did, who they did it to, and the names of every character on any account they use. Not only would it be an easy way to check out the trustworthiness of characters, but I bet it would cut down on account sharing.
