1st time running EQ

Installed today, waited for server up, started game, logged in to the P99 server, screen went black, the music swelled grandly as I hummed along, then...

Error: Windows Application Error

The instructions at 0x02791c6b referenced memory at 0x00000018. The memory could not be read.

So, went to the EQ folder, made sure all permissions were full, rechecked that files that needed to be deleted and/or replaced were, used the Launch Titanium icon I'm supposed to for the eqemu servers (obviously since I logged into p99).... what went wrong?

Using Windows 8, not 8.1, 64 bit. Laptop more than surpasses the requirements needed. Is there another folder I should reset permissions for?
