As I see it, there are two reasons to make a new server. I have difficulty understanding the attraction for the powers that be, of team PVP server ahead of either of these two server ideas:
1) A second blue server to alleviate the endgame woes - i.e. make endgame more available. 2) A second blue server to expand past Velious with custom semi-Luclin content. This one "needs" to happen, but probably would be 2 to 3 years out. I'll admit that thinning out the player base is potentially problematic (aside from the end game thinning)... but if there will be a new team pvp server, that risk exists anyway. Both 1 and 2 above address a real problem. The introduction of a team PVP server does not - at least at first glance. Perhaps such a server would have the same effect as idea number 1 however. Hmmm....

In Sirken's stream last week I think it was said that item loot has been discussed and is a possibility for teams (and how item loot would work: for example would it include stacks or items in bags in inventory would it be 1 or more would/how would the item be randomly chosen by the system etc.), along with an accelerated timeline to catch up to blue/red (with the possibility of an xp bonus to help accomodate those playing on the accelerated timeline). Almost certainly happening sometime after Velious [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] Thats about as far as its gotten. The way the teams would be divided up hasn't been decided, but I think the favorable number of teams atm is 3.
You could probably chalk this post up to a lot of speculation really, but it did come up this last week and these seemed to be the leanings of the discussion in the stream. (not those of the devs)

That was my thinking, too, swish, but my friends and I have all concluded that we are going to wait till at least summer for the new consoles. For one, because we are all tapped out with kids, other interests, etc and by the time you get an extra controller, accessories, and a couple games that's going to be an 800 dollar day at least. Not to mention if there is some manufacturing or design flaw like the overheating problem that caused the red ring on like 1/3 of all of the original 360s sold, we would like to buy after that is revealed and cleaned up.
But for me, mostly, its because I have way too many games that I want to finish and max out achievements for before I upgrade. I'm sure the lack of downward compatibility means we are getting a significant tech jump with this generation and bodes well for the future, but it really sucks when you still have a shelf full of games you would like to play but can't do them all at once. So, having just gotten my box back online for the first time since spring, I couldn't wait on AC4 especially but also GTA5. Both are great if you like those games. I skipped blackops2 last year because they were getting so stupidly repetitive with the cod games I thought it was a waste of time and money, but the only shooter I've really played in a couple years has been BL2. I figured I was due so I grabbed ghosts. I ran the first couple of campaign missions and like one mp session. At first glance it seems like improved graphics (stunningly really) and a more realistic weapon feel. Very interested in the squad play, but finishing off AC right now. What happened with BF? I have played the last couple but decided to hold off as my plate is full right now with the others.

True a next gen console is a significant investment...tempted to just buy/build a decent desktop PC and enjoy gaming that way, if not for friends all having consoles these days.
BF4 is a downgrade from BF3 at the moment. All kinds of bugs, server problems, connectivity issues etc but amid all that, good ol' EA is eager to push its revenue streams (aka "Premium") rather than put more effort in to ironing out he problems. Many think that it should have been held for the next gen consoles as the current consoles are struggling with the bigger maps and rendering speeds. Anyway enough about that [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] Black Ops 2 was better than MW3 I thought, some great maps too. Not buying Ghosts though, need a break from COD [You must be logged in to view images. Only thing to really look forward to is ESO and seeing if that'll be any good.

This isn't a discussion about why there should or shouldn't be a new server. Personally, I would prefer a new blue server but that's not the point, either.
The dev team here anounced over the summer that there will be a teams based red server. I've been gone for a month or so and was wondering what all we know about it, officially, up to this point. Not to debate why there should or shouldn't be one. There are a number of other threads for that and I would appreciate this one not turning into that. We know that there will be a teams based red server and that toons from red99 will likely be merged into it at some point well after launch returning the project to one red server. We know that they were open to suggestions about ruleset. What else? Timeframe? Have they said anything about the ruleset since the initial discussions?
