I'm pretty sure I read that Brad McQuaid specifically avoided any demonic creatures in EverQuest in order to avoid offending those of faith.

I wouldn't doubt it. When I was a kid in the 80's D&D had a terrible reputation as being satanic...

Then again for some reason people took the religous wing nuts seriously in the 80s and everything was said to be satanic.
