There'll always be an ample supply of porters here though, gotta get on the EconomyQuest ladder etc.

To answer he OP:
EQMac was the best version there ever will be unfortunately. It's just SOE's infrastructure didn't support the old codebase and they didn't think they could profit when there were extra costs involved (which was dumb). Irony is now they are discussing making a PoP time locked server. When they should just resurrect Al'Kabor, make a PC client and charge a subscription. But they are too dumb for that. After that got shut down, PEQ had a decent influx. But that server has MQ2 allowed so it's largely 20-boxed armies which are all automated. Which is dumb. The TAKProject is using a legit EQMac client which is good but it's currently in open alpha (buggy/sort of unstable), and they are planning on releasing 1 expansion at a time to break up the workload. This means it won't be a true PoP server for quite awhile.

I played at release. It's still classic travel.

Agree with Daldaen.
Are you involved in the TAK project? I loved EQ Mac, and wish I would have played it more. Books were a really big help for noobs...but they honestly didn't help all that much when you looked at the expansion continents. You still needed a Druid/Wiz or a lot of running to get way out into Kunark, Velious, and Luclin. A book could drop you at specific places in these zones, but you usually had to hoof it afterwards to get to Seb, WW, Ssra, etc.

TAKP open alpha has been p fun, I would say one of the biggest things going for them is the client. Its just that much more classic ironically haha.
But from what I gathered from their forums they are not looking to do a "true to the era" style progression so much as removing conveniences later added in. It appears to me that they are going to progress in the same fashion as Sony did on their prog servers: take the current server and remove later era material until the xpac for said content is completed. So yes, *eventually* they'll probably be the most true to era PoP server, with a few mac chars having the option to transfer from tgc that were saved from mac just prior to shutdown from what I understand They haven't been too clear about whats going to happen with the mac char transfers but my hope would be that they'd just let tgc chars xfer too, got a rogue there I'd love to have on mac [You must be logged in to view images. Classic through PoP is my favorite timeframe. I really enjoyed Luclin and PoP (I also really enjoy Classic / Kunark / Velious), after that the game was much too bloated / over the top that it wasnt enjoyable anymore. This would also give people the ability to "stay classic" if they wanted. They dont have to level past 60 if they dont want, they dont have to spend AA if they dont want, they dont have to go to Luclin or PoP if they dont want..... it'd be a lot of fun IMO.
Completely agreed though, resurrect AK and enable PC clients, and charge subscriptions, it'd be a win.
